The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an extension of the philosophy of Outward Education, and also evolved out of Kurt Hahn's philosophy. It is open to all students over 14 years and all Year 9 students are offered the opportunity to enrol. Students who join the College after Year 9 are strongly encouraged to enrol in the Award as well. Students who complete the award are presented with a badge respective of the award they have completed. These students who complete Silver and Gold are presented with their award at the College's Presentation Night, to recognize the time and effort invested and the commitment made to completing such a task.

Through their involvement in the program, young people learn to experience the importance of self-discipline, commitment, enterprise and effort. Their participation in the various activities helps them to prove themselves, to create, to dare and to work out their relationships with friends and others. It adds purpose and pleasure to their lives. The Award is well recognised world wide and is well regarded on a studentcurriculum vitae.

David Armstrong and James Tudor are the Duke of Edinburgh coordinators at St Philip's and oversee the facilitation of the program.

Application form (please note the College enrols all interested Year 9 students in Term 1. Students who enrol later must pay their own enrolment fee)

Community Service

St Philip's students participate in a wide range of community service activities on an individual basis, through organised programs, as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements and as a compulsory activity in Year 9.

All Year 9 students devote two periods per fortnight to community service projects which vary from working with small community groups such as the RSPCA and aged care facilities such as Hetti Perkins and primary schools.
