The College considers homework to be an important part of its academic program. Through a process of consultation with parents of Junior level students, the College has established a homework policy which aims to ensure that students in Years 7 and 8 are not burdened by homework but do have the opportunity to develop skills that foster a lifelong enthusiasm for independent learning and prepare them for their senior school years.
It is emphasised that students in Years 7-9 should not be staying up late, losing sleep or using all their valuable recreation time to cope with homework. Any problem with time should be promptly communicated to the school. Expected minimum Monday - Friday:
Year 7 - 1 hour
Year 8 - 1.5 hours
Year 9 - 1 hour 40 minutes
Year 10 - 2 hours (minimum)
Year 11 - 2.5 hours (minimum)*
Year 12 - 3 hours (minimum)*
*Plus 5 hours every weekend
Students learning a musical instrument should practise for half an hour each day.
The library is the Homework Centre and is staffed from Monday to Friday until 4.30pm by teaching staff in a supervisory capacity. It is supervised by library staff until 6.30pm from Monday to Thursday and until 4.30pm on Fridays. It is expected that students attending the homework centre undertake their own quiet work.
Subject help sessions are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in English, Mathematics and Science subjects from around 3.15pm to 4.30pm in various rooms outlined below. One of the computer rooms, room 19, is also open on these same days for students needing to use a computer. There are a small number of computers in the library for general student use at other times. Click here for the Term 3 Homework Centre and Subject help sessions.
The College offers an Extra Curriculum Program for all students. Students can undertake more than one Ex-Activity if they wish. If an activity is oversubscribed, some students will be allocated to the activity for this semester and some for next semester. Activities on offer in Term 3.
