Senior School

SUPPORT, CHOICE, SUCCESSS

The Senior School at Philip’s College is a time when our students are provided with the guidance, support and knowledge to help them make decisions based on their skills, interests and dreams.

The College offers a wide variety of opportunities and options and aims for a high standard of achievement, and strives for a high Year 12 pass rate, through either the ATAR or ACCESS Pathways.

While recognising that each student must accept the ultimate responsibility for their performance, our staff excel at providing the best support for all students who require it, or ask for it, no matter which path they choose.

I love the staff and their way of teaching; I love the amount of opportunities and help the school provides.

FAQ's

What is the student-to-teacher ratio in the Senior School?

The student-to-teacher ratio in the Senior School varies depending on the subject. Personalised attention and tailored instruction, is ensured, so that each student receives the support they need to succeed.

What advanced courses are available for Senior School students?

St Philip’s College believes in the extension of students who are gifted across the curriculum or in specific areas. Opportunities are provided for students to be involved in a wide range of activities that may extend them or simply offer wider experience. We have Year 12 students who have completed introductory university courses.

It should be noted that this is not done to the exclusion of less able students. All are given the opportunity to be involved. Individual differences are recognised by teachers within the classroom and tasks are varied to meet the needs of students.

Students are encouraged to become involved in activities that develop communication skills and organisational ability.

Are there opportunities for leadership development in the Senior School?

Yes, St Philip's is renown for its very active student leadership program. Students who accept leadership roles are made aware that the position is one of care and responsibility, not power and privilege. We offer a leadership development program, and mentorship opportunities. These programs are designed to help students build confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility.

What support services are available for students?

Our students have easy access to members of the Wellbeing team at St Philip's. We provide a range of support services, including academic tutoring, counseling, and wellness programs. Our goal is to ensure that every student has the resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

How does St Philip's create a sense of community among students?

Since the moment a student commences at St Philip's they are connected with a buddy, who helps ease their transition into the school community. When our students become a senior student they are aware of the value of being a mentor and friend.

We foster a close-knit community through various cultural and social events, team-building activities, and collaborative projects. Our emphasis on inclusivity is paramount as our students proudly represent 21 different nationalities, speak over 40 languages and 22% were born overseas. We also have students who identify differently to others, and they are supported to feel connected and valued.
