Fred McKay Education Centre - Facility Hire

The Fred McKay Education Centre was designed as a memorial to the late Rev Dr Fred McKay. It was funded by public subscription to an appeal launched by St Philip’s College, of which Rev McKay was the founder and patron.

Rammed earth, corrugated iron, rusted and recycled steel, river stone and aggregate have been extensively used as both inside and outside finishes .

Interior colours are the fabled Namatjira purple, the orange and charcoal of campfires, and the fresh green of new eucalypt growth.

The Fred McKay Education Centre was officially opened in 2003 and is located at the front entrance to St Philip’s College in Schwarz Crescent, Alice Springs.

The functional spaces inside this building are designed as ‘pods’ linked to a central hub from which the building is administered. It is airconditioned and heated. Located under one roof are:

· 150 seat lecture theatre
· two classrooms
· 20 seat meeting room
· exhibition/functions space
· kitchen
