Frequently Asked Questions

What is it like to learn at St Philip's?

Our students are encouraged to become critical thinkers and problem solvers with a focus on a technological education that prepares them to enter an ever-changing world.

Our mission is to provide students with a high quality education, whether they start in Year 7 or later on, and to do so in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.

Our students begin their journey at St Philip's exploring how to apply their learning to real-life situations to enable both personal and academic success. As they progress, we encourage them to develop appropriate learning strategies that supports the successful completion of their schooling in balance with their personal interests and talents.

Our curriculum is underpinned by contemporary educational research and teachers who are passionate about education. The curriculum is supported by the Round Square Discovery framework. Our co-curriculum supports this and provides our students the opportunity to explore interests outside of the classroom.

How does St Philip's College measure its success?

Student happiness, sense of belonging, academic success, community mindedness, and living the College's Values and Commitment are all elements that measure a student's success.

Why is St Philip's part of the Round Square organisation?

St Philip's College believes in developing well-rounded students. We are a member of Round Square and share the commitment to encourage beyond just academic excellence, by focussing on personal development and responsibility through service, challenge, adventure and international understanding.

How are students encouraged To Strive, To Seek and To Care with HEART?

Our students encounter our values and commitment on a daily basis. In everything we do we live the values of Honesty, Engagement, Acceptance, Respect and Trust inspired by our Christian ethos and our place locally and globally.

How is St Philip's different to other schools?

The student body reflects Alice Springs' multi-cultural mix of people, most of whom have come from somewhere else. Their families include scientists, linguists, teachers, nurses, tradespeople, sociologists, anthropologists, paleontologists, computer experts, defence personnel and a large American community servicing the US-Australia joint defence force facility at Pine Gap.

Conscious of our geographic isolation, St Philip's works hard to ensure this is not a limiting factor for its students. From Years 7 to 12, students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities and opportunities which broaden their horizons and see them travel regionally, nationally and internationally.

Students are encouraged to strive for academic excellence and as a result, our graduates attend universities in all Australian states and the US, qualified to study everything from medicine to outdoor education, music to information technology. Many students also excel at taking VET pathways and become leaders in their chosen field.

The College's curriculum and extra-curricular programs are designed to appeal to and challenge young people living and learning outside the mainstream of Australian urban society, whilst at the same time providing them with the key to it.

Can I continue to develop my passion outside the classroom?

Yes! The opportunities available to students at St Philip's ensures that the learning from inside the classroom is relevant to the experiences students encounter outside the classroom and vice-versa.

Do you offer scholarships or iniatives to cover school fees?

Through the generous support of long-term friends and donors of the College, we are able to assist many families to ensure that a St Philip's education is available to those students who are excited to excel. More information can be found on our Financial Assistance page.

In everything we do, we live the values of Honesty, Engagement, Acceptance, Respect and Trust inspired by our Christian ethos and our place locally and globally.

We acknowledge the Arrernte people as the traditional custodians and first educators of Mparntwe. Our school is home to students from nations all around the world. We ‘strive’ to work with and continue learning from First Nations people. We ‘seek’ to be a part of Australia’s reconciliation journey by engaging in truth-telling. We aim to ‘care’ for Country through connection and environmental education. We pay our respects to elders past and present and thank them for their care of Country and sharing of knowledge.
